Heidelberg Mall attracting top retailers

The R600-million Heidelberg Mall, an innovative joint venture between the Lesedi Council and private developer and co-owner, Flanagan & Gerard, is already attracting top retailers ahead of its October 2014 opening. Marble Gold, the joint venture partner of the Lesedi Council, facilitated the company's investment and involvement.

Creating a commanding regional retail attraction, the developers have announced that confirmed anchor tenants for the 35 000 sqm mall are retail heavyweights Checkers, Woolworths, Edgars, Game and Dis-Chem.

The mall has a strong fashion focus, including Edgars, Woolworths, Truworths, Ackermans, Legit, Identity, Pep, Pick n Pay Clothing, Cape Union Market, Old Khaki and Shoe City. Other stores include BT Games, Toys R Us, Trappers Trading, Drimac, MTN and Samsung. Others signed up include Bargain Books, Pep Home, Signature Cosmetics, Cappuccinos and Barber SA.

"We are making excellent leasing progress. So far, the mall is 74% let," explains Flanagan & Gerard executive director, Patrick Flanagan.

The mall benefits from a prime location at the Jacobs Road interchange of the N3 highway with excellent regional access for Nigel, Balfour Greylingstad, Villiers and surrounds. It is also enjoys top-notch design by local VDM Architects, in partnership with award-winning specialist retail architects MDS Architecture.

"It will be a real retail asset that serves the region's consumers with quality shopping variety under one roof, providing greater access to important products and services for the community," says Buti Mokoena, the local businessman who heads Marble Gold. "By being located and designed to complement the existing Heidelberg CBD, it will boost retail choice in the wider area."

Besides creating an excellent shopping destination, it is also introducing many economic benefits, such as 1900 to 2100 construction jobs, 800 to 1200 permanent positions and seasonal employment opportunities. These will come from the local community wherever possible and, where available, construction materials will be sourced locally.
