With less than 500 days to go before the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup, the focus of the Department of Sport and Recreation is on the mass mobilisation of our citizens' to support the continent's biggest sporting event.

Starting this past week-end, the Department has begun piloting a community awareness campaign in some of the province's municipal districts.

The 2010 Mass Mobilisation Programme is part of the Department's Legacy Initiative under the Mass Participation Programme of the National and Provincial Departments.

The purpose of the mobilisation campaign is to create hype and awareness of the World Cup and most importantly to send the all important message that 2010 is not only for the host cities but for all the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

The 2010 Mass Mobilisation Programme focuses on using football to bring communities together. It entails a 5-a-side football tournament format in the selected municipalities.

The programme highlights the partnership between the SAFA local football structures, municipalities and the Department of Sport and Recreation and our citizens.

The following areas have been chosen to be part of the programme for the 2008-2009 financial year.
