Wholesale trade sales at constant (2000) prices for October grew 8.9% year on year (y/y) compared with a revised 9.4% (9.5%) in September, Statistics SA data showed on Wednesday, 7 December.
For the three months ended October, sales were up 18.3% compared with the same quarter in 2010.
Wholesale trade sales, at constant 2000 prices, for the third quarter of 2011 increased by 8.9% compared with the third quarter of 2010, while sales for the same period in 2010 increased by 4.5%.
Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales for the third quarter of 2011 increased by 3.5% compared with the second quarter of 2011.
Stats SA attributed the 18.3% rise in Q3 to dealers in solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (31.9% and contributing 6.2 percentage points), followed by dealers in agricultural raw materials and livestock (48.0% and contributing 2.2 percentage points) and dealers in machinery, equipment and supplies (18.3% and contributing 3.0 percentage points).
In addition, Stats SA noted that wholesale trade sales, at current prices, for October 2011 increased by 19.1% compared with October 2010, while sales for the corresponding period in 2010 increased by 6.0%.
