The third annual Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) events and conference, taking place from 22- 24 October at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, is aimed at positioning South Africa as a sports tourism destination. Across the three days, SETE will provide the opportunity for businesses from the sports and tourism industries to collaborate during the two day conference, with an exhibition and networking events taking place around the conference. SETE attracts over 1000 visitors who are decision makers in the sports industry.
This year the conference will not only assess the progress achieved in the implementation of the strategy set in place in 2012, but will also examine the role of local government in supporting major events, understand global sponsorship trends and accessing finance for major events. A key focus this year will also be to understand the challenges and opportunities with growing sports tourism in Africa. Experts will debate the need and key elements of a strategic framework to ensure that Africa is globally competitive as a sports tourism continent.
The 2013 SETE is proud to announce that South African Airways (SAA) is the carrier of choice for the show; with special rates having been secured for the event to enable more customers access to preferential fares with SAA. SAA is the leading and most awarded airline in Africa, offering the widest route network and the most direct flights to a host of destinations globally.
"South African Airways welcomes the opportunity to be affiliated with the 2013 SETE. Having recently achieved the coveted Skytrax 4 star rating that affirms SAA's superior product offering as voted for by its valued passengers, it is an honour to be chosen as carrier of choice to SETE. SAA's approach to travel is not a one-size-fits-all concept but rather a fit-for-purpose tailored approach that speaks to the needs of our diverse and loyal passengers. SAA welcomes all SETE attendees to make use of the special offering available to attendees and experience a world class air travel service," said Manoj Papa, SAA's acting General Manager: Commercial.
"We are delighted to have SAA on board as the carrier of choice for the 2013 SETE," commented Sugen Pillay, Business Development Director at Thebe Exhibitions and Projects. "With the caliber of international and local hosted buyers, we are certain this partnership will be beneficial to SAA and South Africa as a sports tourism destination," Pillay explained.
The Sports and Events Tourism Exchange is hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, partnered by CATHSSETA, SASCOC, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, and supported by Durban KZN Convention Bureau.
