New youth dance competition launches
e.tv launches a new youth hip hop dance competition, The Shield No Sweat Show, featuring girls aged 12 - 18 years old, on Sunday, 10 August 2008, at 6.05pm. Hip hop was reportedly introduced to South Africa in the 1980s and has become extremely popular among urban youth. Says Zanele Mthembu, head of local productions at e.tv: “This is a unique opportunity for e.tv to partner with Shield on dance competition for girls. Street dance has been dominated mostly by males and now for the first time on SA television young girls will have the platform to showcase their dance skills in hip hop, kwaito and R&B.”
