Sacap launches Honours degree in HR management

Sacap (the South African College of Applied Psychology) has expanded its offering of progressive Human Resource Management (HRM) education programmes with the recent launch of a Bachelor of Social Science Honours degree in HRM. With a vision to develop HR practitioners who are high-performing leaders in the 4IR context, the Sacap Honours programme blends academic and practical skills to develop HR competencies whilst incorporating critical and analytical insight, research rigour, systemic thinking and ethical practice.

“This is an ideal programme to take your human resource management knowledge and practice to the next level,” says Ashley Motene, Sacap’s Management & Leadership Programme Developer. “The 4IR is dramatically shaping our world of work and our understanding of work-related opportunities. The fusion of our human and digital contexts means that HRM presents opportunities for you to become a catalyst of change with a view of HRM as a flexible, dependable partnership that helps leaders, workers and organisations to make sense of their changing needs. New roles are emerging for HR practitioners as organisations rapidly redevelop with the people on the journey with them. The required competencies for HRM will continue to be adaptive and behavioural in nature. Through competency development, readiness for varied workplaces becomes that much more essential for HRM practitioners and this is what this degree is also preparing you for as an honours student.”

With small class sizes and close interaction with faculty, Sacap takes a student-centred focus in its provision of a community-oriented learning environment that is intentionally designed to optimise every student’s intrapersonal and interpersonal growth. The new BSocSci Honours degree in HRM will be available as a full-time one year programme at Sacap’s Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban campuses, as well as a two-year part-time programme on its well-developed Online campus. “This qualification brings the ‘humanness’ back to HRM with elements of psychology integrated into the programme,” Motene says, “It aims to prepare practitioners to meet the challenges of the 4IR workplace with the confidence that they have the knowledge and skills to guide their organisations when it comes to the contemporary demands of employee experience, managing diversity and inclusion, reskilling and reinvention, incorporation of data science and analytics, and organisational culture.”

Sacap’s BSocSci Honours in HRM programme is open to candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree with an HRM or Industrial/Organisational Psychology major. The qualification is CHE accredited at NQF Level 8, as well as aligned to the South African Board for People Practices HR Standards in its design. Admissions are now open for Term1 of 2021.
