    TKZee strike gold

TKZee, the once popular kwaito group that has been silent for years, have struck gold. A few weeks after waking from the dead, the kwaito outfit has snatched a multi-million rand deal with cellular network giant MTN.

The deal will see TKZee using their new album, Coming Home, in the MTN summer campaign named Ayoba.

Both MTN and the kwaito trio, comprising Kabelo Mabalane, Zwai Bala and Tokollo Tshabalala, have refused to divulge the exact figure involved.

The deal will also give MTN customers exclusive access to club gigs across the country where TKZee perform.

MTN Musiq and MTN Loaded also offer subscribers a CD preview compilation of 16 exclusive tracks from TKZee, with a full compilation available to download from MTN Loaded free, and a choice of voice mail recordings by the group.

MTN spokesperson Bridget Bhengu yesterday, 18 october 2009, revealed that the deal involved “a couple of million”.

Asked why they named this year's summer campaign Ayoba, Bhengu said that though the term did not have an English translation, MTN described it as an exuberant expression of general delight or approval.

“This summer we are bringing the true spirit of ‘Ayoba-ness' to our customers.

“We have spent the past 15 years launching unique products that have enabled South Africans to get connected,” Bhengu said.

“We are delighted to continue leading the way with the launch of our summer 2009 campaign theme that is distinctly South African.”

The Ayoba campaign was launched yesterday and will run until January 31 next year.

The deal comes a few weeks after TKZee made a return with the fresh project titled Coming Home.
