Celebrating the release of Jimmy Nevis' new album Chimera
I arrived at 7pm sharp and was greeted with a smile and a welcome drink – I politely declined but did not pass up the offer to indulge in some canapés. I then scanned the venue and its atmosphere, which was both warm and cheerful – upbeat music played in the background as guests huddled together in small circles of four.
Once the evening got underway, Nevis seated himself in front of a circular screen where visuals of his journey as a singer were displayed. The cool and confident singer then performed his single Feel something. See the set up below:
More about the album
The album's title is named after a Greek mythological fire-breathing creature that has physical traits of a lion, goat, and dragon. For humans, a Chimera is a person who has two sets of DNA. Nevis says his album encapsulates many of the emotions, tribulations, questions, as well as his growth as an individual over the past 25 years.
In my opinion, this is his strongest body of work. Here is my favourite track from the album:
Nevis recorded over 40 songs for the album and only 17 of them made the final cut. His work effort is admirable.
Nevis says: "Music has always been a staple in my life, but it’s only most recently since I began to explore the inner reaches of my being that I became aware of the many parts that make up who I am and that influence how I write songs."
The album is available across all digital platforms. Be sure to give it a listen on his YouTube channel.
