New magazines target health, glamour

A pharmaceutical niche magazine, entitled Live Life, launches in Gauteng in December 2011 for producers to directly inform consumers about health, medical and lifestyle matters and, for the glitterati, the third December issue of Shine showcases top international jewellery and luxury brands as a bagged edition inside Fairlady, Sarie and True Love.

Live Life is published by Gauteng-based publishing house, Free Radical Media and distributed on a bi-monthly basis to 50 000 consumers throughout Gauteng. A Western Cape edition is set to be launched in the near future. The digital application is also available at no cost to the consumer. Conceived by qualified pharmacist and consumer health and wellness industry expert, Fanie Hendriksz, it is aimed at the high-end consumer.

"Identified a vacancy"

"I became tired of reading the same impractical, irrelevant health and lifestyle articles and identified a vacancy for relevant, fresh content. There is a need for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and general health and wellness companies to directly engage with their target audiences - the magazine is the connecting point," explains Hendriksz.

The magazine (and its online counterpart) is interactive and dialogue driven, focusing on readers' feedback, requests and suggestions. Editorial, in both English and Afrikaans, will include expert health pieces as well as the latest trends and breakthroughs in the pharmaceutical industry.

Shining into the New Year

Shine editor-in-chief, Kerese Thom, has put together a glossy resource for the discerning jewellery lover who views it as an investment in self, celebrating femininity and personal style.

The 156-page magazine is described as a comprehensive catalogue of the best of jewellery, including a feature on the winning designs from the 13th annual PlatAfrica Design Competition. In addition to the jewellery coverage, there are celebrities wearing luxury brands and a Q&A with Dior representative, Charlize Theron.
