Excitement is building for charity race

With just over two weeks to go, the excitement is building for one of the biggest race days on the Highveld Horse Racing calendar - the Emperor's Palace Charity Mile and the R3 Million Ready to Run Cup that will take place at Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg on 2 November 2013.
Excitement is building for charity race

The Charity Mile sees each horse represented by a well known personality who is also representing a charity. While the names of some of this year's celebrities are being kept under wraps, well known faces include radio personality Bailey Schneider and SuperSport presenter and passionate racing enthusiast, Neil Andrews. Also rumoured to be on the list for this year is Olympic Gold Medalist, Ryk Neethling.

Everyone wins

In this worthy showcase of horse racing for a good cause, a total of R550,000 will be given away to the 16 participating charities. The charity of the winning horse gets R100,000 with each following represented charity receiving a relative portion of the total. Even the 16th placed charity receives R20,000, so no organisation is left out.

The R3 Million Ready to Run Cup is the second feature race on the day, with entries restricted to qualifying graduates of the Ready to Run Sale 2012. The final field and draws will be announced on Tuesday, 29 October. Unlike other races which pay down to the fifth place, this race pays to the tenth placed horse, and with the first place prize of R1.5m, acceptance into the race is highly anticipated and has made this sales concept popular among buyers looking for their next champion.

This year's sale kicks off at 4pm on Friday, 1 November, with a break on Saturday for the racing and continues at 2pm on Sunday, 3 November.
