Getting inventive with incentives can matter a great deal

Working towards a goal means nothing without something to urge you on, which is why incentive plans are ideal as they not only provide those taking part with the needed motivation, but also offer recognition and reward to employees for meeting pre-established goals or objectives.

Having something to work towards in business is vital to keep it moving forward. Without a goal to aim for, we are just stuck in a rut. However, the problem is that in working fervently to achieve these goals with gusto, we sometimes lose that drive to make it to the finish line. No matter what time of the year, fatigue can set in fast, when it comes to reaching for those milestones. The answer - incentive programmes.

Our company recently ran an incentive programme along with strategic partner, Coca-Cola, as a means of inspiring the stores in the group to push for greater results in their businesses. The effectiveness of their efforts were measured according to their percentage growth, specifically pertaining to Coca-Cola sales and the stores in Grahamstown, Piet Retief, Lethlabile and Mooi Kloof, came out tops. Staff and employees were rewarded with various smaller prizes, with the Grahamstown store winning the main prize of a boat cruise.

No matter how big or small the prize, incentive programmes motivate employees to push and challenge themselves to achieve higher degrees of productivity, which in turn affects results in the business and the brand as a whole. Incentives also boost morale, increase job satisfaction and enhance service levels, all of which have a positive impact on the company's bottom line.
