With an average of between 1500 and 2000 daily transactions, most of NetFlorist's sales are made through its website. Having integrated MasterPass as an online checkout option, NetFlorist is now able to offer a convenient online shopping experience for debit card customers, who were unable to shop on the site previously.

"Eighty-five percent of our business is via the NetFlorist website," said Ryan Bacher, MD of NetFlorist. "MasterPass appeals as a payment option as it is a versatile solution - customers banking with any bank can download and use it, whether they have a debit card or a credit card."

MasterPass allows consumers to store all their MasterCard or other branded credit or debit card information securely in one place. Customers can now make secure online payments on NetFlorist for gifts including flower arrangements, sweet treats, hampers and other gifting items without the repeated hassle of entering these details each time.

Benefits for e-tailers

Mark Elliott, Division President of MasterCard in South Africa, said that there are a number of benefits for e-tailers like NetFlorist to offer MasterPass as an online checkout payment solution.

"MasterPass makes an online shopping experience more convenient, more accessible and much safer. It has multiple security layers that ensure customers' details are stored in a safe place, and that purchases are made by no one other than the online shopper," he said.

To mark the launch of MasterPass, NetFlorist has a dedicated R99 Store on its website offering customers a wide selection of gifts at the specified rate if payment is made using MasterPass. Gifts include personalised hampers, soft toys, flowers, fruit bowls, sweet treats, bath goodies, and even items from Le Creuset.
