General | Creatively, it was a strong month. Despite the print category being on the thin side, the general consensus was that there were lots of great ideas. | |
Newspaper | First and second places were clear standouts. There was a pretty big drop-off from second and that's why no third place was awarded. | First place goes to BBDO Cape Town for the City Varsity newspaper ad. Second place goes to TJDR Jhb for CAN Wii campaign, although there was a small debate about whether the campaign was good for newspaper. Third place goes to Draftfb Jhb for Lexus Migration ad. |
Magazine | We only received eight entries which is unfortunate. Let's keep print alive. | Clear first place went to Vodacom's Sim Back It Up campaign from Draft FCB. They also get second place for the ‘Books behind bars' campaign for Kalahari.net. DDB-SA‘s Energizer campaign was seemingly well-liked but got third place instead. All three go through to Ad of the Year. |
Outdoor | It's refreshing to see the crafting that went into this category. | Only two pieces worthy of ranking and both go through to Ad of the Year. The Mercedes Benz campaign from Net#work BBDO Jhb takes first place, and second place goes to Net#work BBO CT for CityVarsity's Periodic Table. Must be the Loeries pre-hangover. |
TV/cinema | Also only a handful of entries were received, but there were some wonderful ideas. | First place goes to Draftfcb Jhb for their innovative cinema experience for Lexus Mark Levinson sound system. A close second goes to the same agency for Vodacom Player 23+1 ad. Third place is Net#work BBDO Jhb for Chicken Licken “Cravings”. Sweet. |
Radio | It was great to see a strong radio category with fresh ideas that were well-produced. | A clear first place goes to Kalahari.Net for their 80's Classics campaign, a refreshing feat for a campaign done in the vernacular languages. Second place goes to Draftfcb Jhb for Toyota Genuine Parts campaign. Third place is Net#work BBDO Jhb with Simba Ghost Pops. Andre Vrdoljak wondered out aloud whether it wasn't better and cheaper for agencies to enter radio campaigns instead of just singles. Everyone giggled. |
Experiential | This was the largest category and fiercely contested. First place was unanimous while second and third place were rounded off by very worthy ideas. |
