Dhlomo the face of MTV Base

Durban-born rap music fan, Sizwe Dhlomo, has been appointed official host of the first series of MTV base World Chart Express, the new music chart show airing weekly on SABC1 from Wednesday 12 October 2005.

Dhlomo beat finalists Ash-Leigh La-Foy and Sfiso Magagula in a regional search hosted in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The 22-year old was initially beaten in the Durban auditions by fellow finalist Ash-Leigh La Foy. Determined to become MTV Base's first South African VJ, Dhlomo traveled to compete in the Johannesburg heat to give it another try.

Dhlomo says: "There was no way I was going to give up. I took what I could from the Durban auditions and made sure that I gave my best possible performance in Johannesburg."

The winner was decided by SMS voting by viewers of MTV Base World Chart Express along with the expertise of the panel of 5 celebrity judges. These included MTV Base talent and music executive Richard Dimosi, SABC TV presenter Zam Nkosi, 5FM's Nicole Fox, kwaito star Zola and Fanta marketing manager Sgwili Gumede. Host for the first 2 shows was MTV France VJ China.
