This according to Albi Modise, head of communications for the Department of Environmental Affairs. "South Africa is also moving towards a low carbon economy embracing pro-growth, pro-development and pro-job creation while also recognising the challenges represented by the lurking threat of climate change. We must re-engineer how we do business and take advantage of the opportunities in sustainable development."
Case studies and best practices from businesses around the globe that have gone beyond required legislation and that have taken advantage of these opportunities have been highlighted in the ESG Green Pages, official catalogue of COP17 to both benchmark and celebrate local and international sustainable business efforts.
The Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Green Pages, published by Topco Media, is a comprehensive, go-to reference guide for public and private enterprises and individuals who are interested and operate within the spheres of environmental sustainability. In the light of Durban hosting COP17/CMP7, South Africans will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations and capabilities not only to fellow South Africans but also internationally.
"The ESG Green Pages editorial gives a brief overview of what is happening on the global environmental social governance front. We need to sound the alarm, but also celebrate those individuals and organisations fighting the good fight," says Tania de Kock, editor of ESG Green Pages.
This official catalogue of COP17 is endorsed by the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and takes on an international view on climate change and related topics to showcase what is being done around the world.
The catalogue will include several pages dedicated to product reviews on South African novel 'green' products, as well as related sector overviews.
Insights into the position of the United Nations in relation to climate change will be offered through a variety of condensed international reports including the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The PRI summarises the responsible investment activities of PRI signatories and covers key findings on governance, policy and strategy, and the Six Principles.
