It's not a quick-fix ... It's for Life!
Three participants, chosen on the basis of specific short comings in terms of improving their social and professional lives spend 13 weeks in a house learning life skills relating to communication, goal setting and conflict resolution etc.
Jo Neethling, Project Manager at SABC Education explains: "With the help of specialists and experts, the three participants are put to the test to find out whether they know how to practically incorporate the life skills they were taught into their own lives. The journey seems bumpy and challenging."
Participants in the first 13 weeks are Charles Shabalala, Anthony Almeida and Rochelle Davids. Charles is 23, unemployed, well spoken, drop dead gorgeous and wants to be a movie star, he lives with his mother and struggles to make ends meet. Charles feels he is unemployed because he doesn't have the right connections and admits his arrogance is holding him back. Anthony is a cabinet maker, 27 years old and lives with his family and 11 dogs. He has been stuck in the same job for 11 years with about zero percent salary increase in that time. He wants a new direction in life, wants to be assertive and confident. Rochelle likes to dance on tables, paint and go sky-diving. She is 28 years old, has great friends and is a real family girl who loves to laugh. As an administrative clerk, the filing, figure checking and phone answering is very boring for a girl who dreamt of being a motor mechanic, psychologist or journalist. If she knew how, she'd definitely change her job.
At the end of the first 13 weeks we find out if Anthony has the courage to seize his destiny, is Rochelle strong enough to loose her boring desk job and can Charles learn humility and patience in order to reach his dreams?
26 episodes of It's for Life, produced by LCAT (Lulu Chakela and Ailsa Tulloch) in mainly English, is broadcast on SABC2 every Sunday at 12h00.
