Seven sites for Township TV
The Township TV concept is that of permanent big-screen TVs in Johannesburg's City Parks, which provide entertainment that starts at 2pm every day, helping to get kids off the street and into a safe park having 24-hour security.
Township TV was started in Diepsloot in December 2007 and another three sites are scheduled before the Confederations Cup kicks off on 14 June. Township is now live in Diepsloot, Diepkloof (Soweto), Lenasia, Eldorado Park, Alexandra, Ivory Park and Joubert Park, and plans for a national roll-out far advanced.
The PSL games are always a major drawcard and Township TV manager, Lewis Manjanja says: "They are coming in their thousands to Ivory Park, some from as far as Tembisa. The people are so grateful to have a big screen in their own backyard."
Township TV founder, Graeme Joffe said: "Township TV is taking TV to the people and the free entertainment is not only educational but also very uplifting.
"We want to touch as many people as possible with this social-responsibility initiative and invite corporates to get involved from either an advertising or activational side. Township TV gives direct communication to the masses with a captive audience. Kids and adults alike spend more than 20 hours a week in the recreational parks."
Township TV is a joint partnership with Johannesburg City Parks.
