PetroSA seeks to explore for Cape coast oil and gas
According to the Sunday Times, PetroSA, South Africa's national oil company, has applied to explore for oil and gas in an 80,000 square kilometre area off the Cape coast, stretching from Cape Agulhas to Saldanha.
PetroSA spokesman Thabo Mabaso, quoted by the Sunday Times, says that test drilling will start in 5-6 years - pending results of initial seismic tests. A five months long environmental management plan is due in October.
