Human development as important as GDP
Human development initiatives are as important as driving up gross domestic product number according to Finance Minister Pravan Gordhan who emphasised that investment in infrastructure, education, water and sanitation are urgently needed in this country.
He was addressing delegates attending the Southern African Conference on Volunteer Action for Development held in Johannesburg.
Business Live reports that the conference is aimed at raising the profile of volunteer action for the Southern Africa Development Community's regional integration and development goals.
He says that South Africa has a very rich history of volunteerism, particularly at a grassroots level.
