    Where angels love to tread

Following the successful staging of The Quartet exactly two years ago, Cape Town's Theatre on the Bay once again presents a production straight from the West End.
    Where angels love to tread

Gary Raymond, Delena Kidd and Wanda Ventham are back, this time as a vicar, his wife, and her sister. Following a death in the family, old secrets come to life and the survivors are forced to confront the truth of their relationships.

The three are joined by Emily Raymond as the couple's psychotherapist daughter and Claire Carrie as a newcomer with some secrets of her own. To say more than that would be to spoil some of the surprises in the plot.

    A real blast of England

"It's a real blast of England," Kidd said in an interview with Peter Tromp. "It's a comedy, but it's also got quite a few serious moments; just reflections on life, about life after a funeral and how people manage to pull their lives back together."

Richard Everett really has written a wonderful play, full of the witty humour one tends to expect from the British as well as some particularly touching scenes. Add to this the top-notch acting from ensemble and the experience is a heavenly breath of fresh air at a time when life on Earth needs it most.

Entertaining Angels is at Cape Town's Theatre on the Bay until 5 April. Book at Computicket.
