Fighting Aids with media assistance

Jet Club magazine will publish its first annual HIV/Aids editorial-supplement in the December issue. The supplement covers the full range of issues, with the human aspect coming through personal testimonials and community heroes.

The sensitive editorial mix ensures that while those living with the disease are praised for their upbeat attitudes there is always an underlying message of safe sex and making responsible choices.

Rukia Cornelius, spokesperson for the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) which is profiled in the magazine, commented: "The TAC commends Jet Club for realising that it is not only a civil society issue but the responsibility of all corporations to take action to curb the high rate of infection and provide access to treatment. The broad reach and readership of the Jet Club magazine makes it a vital ally in the effort to inform and provide people at risk with useable guidelines to prevent infection."

Jet Club's loyalty programme has attracted 1.2 million members from across Southern Africa and 1.8 million people read its monthly magazine. These are all economically active people linked through their shared interested in quality fashion and their appreciation of the many benefits that Jet offers its club members.

In combating the fight against HIV/Aids, Jet Club endeavours to provide guidance and support in a multitude of ways, such as the provision of free antiretrovirals in the case of accidental exposure to the virus and a 24-hour counselling careline.
