The ad "Church" created by Ogilvy & Mather Kenya to publicise government testing and treatment centres for Tuberculosis, won the Chairman's Award at the annual Ogilvy Africa Awards and has also made it onto this year's Red Hot Reel - which means that it features among the best work created by the Ogilvy network worldwide.
Ogilvy Africa group account director Brian Johnson says: "It's a phenomenal achievement for Ogilvy & Mather Kenya and demonstrates that, as a network in Africa, we have the talent to produce world class advertising."
The Awards, which are held in conjunction each year with the Ogilvy Africa conference, judge work from 20 Ogilvy agencies across the continent, in categories including television, radio, print and outdoor. In addition, the awards feature an 'activation' category, which can best be described as experiential marketing.
"It's becoming more and more important for marketers in Africa to reach out to rural communities, as it's where the real growth opportunities lie," explains Johnson.
This year's winner in the Activation category was Top Ad, for Unilever Maluwa's "Big Wash" - an activation that, over the past two year's, has increased sales for Maluwa by 39%.
