Give the creators of Afrikaans adverts the chance to play with Die Taal and it will shine in all its glory as proved by the large number of entries to the new Advertisement of the Month competition run by the Copywriters' Forum (KSF) and Pendoring. Advertisements that appeared in print or were broadcast in January, February and March qualified.
The first winners were announced at a launch last night at Media24's offices in Johannesburg. It was sponsored by Ads24 and Beeld.
Net#work BBDO took the honours in three categories, while FCB Cape Town and Ogilvy also had category winners and runners-up. The new agency blue also impressed.
The panel of adjudicators - Madelet du Plessis (freelance copywriter and the KSF's Pendoring representative), Annette Nel (Net#work BBDO), Bennie du Plessis (Ogilvy SA) and Marc Hosten (Vega school of advertising) - was particularly impressed by the quality of the radio and newspaper entries. Outdoor/billboards and magazines also had many top quality entries, but in general the TV entries disappointed.
Madelet du Plessis says the number of entries received was most pleasing, especially in view of the KKNK and the many holidays we had this month.
"A firm foundation has been laid on which we would like to build. The panel of judges will, among others, be expanded and closer co-operation will be actively sought with the Creative Circle with a view to creative points-recognition for Pendoring."
In the next leg of the competition, advertisements which were published/broadcast in April and May will qualify. The closing day for entries is 7 June.
