Loeries call to entries
The Loerie Awards, South Africa's premier advertising, design and communication awards, is calling for entries for 2006. Entries close on 30 June 2006 and the awards ceremonies are scheduled for 16 and 17 September. All new architectural and design work completed between 1 August 2005 and 30 June 2006, including new additions to a brand (for example, a new store, restaurant, or upgrade), is eligible for entry.
The objective of The Loerie Awards is to recognise and reward creative excellence defined by work that excels in five critical areas - concept, execution, and relevance to the brand, target audience and chosen media. Work deemed innovative and surpassing the norm within these five criteria is rewarded with the Loerie Award accolade.
Explains Andrew Human, MD of The Loerie Awards, "Architecture and Interior Design are crucial elements of brand communication and The Loerie Awards is committed to showcasing groundbreaking work in this field. Similarly, work in environmental graphics such as signage and show stands are integral communication element.
"Entering the Loerie Awards represents an ideal opportunity for environmental designers and architects to show case their work and build their profiles, particularly as all winning work is included in our travelling exhibition and printed annual.
"Winners at The Loerie Awards last year included 1886 Restaurant and Prive Bar, which was awarded a Gold Loerie, and Moyo Zoo Lake, which received a Silver Loerie. In 2002, the Apartheid Museum received a Gold Loerie," he observed.
The international judges are FCB Worldwide's creative director, Jonathan Harries (Advertising Category) and Proximity London's executive creative director, Duncan Gray (Experiential Category).
Major sponsors for this year's event are the SABC, Media24 and Tourism KwaZulu-Natal. Other sponsors and partners are the Design Indaba, Gearhouse, Sappi, brandhouse, Lithotech, Ugu District Municipality, Hetzner Internet Hosting, Paygate Internet payment gateway, Joe Public, Six Million Dollar Media, Orchestra Blue, Sonovision and the Ornico Group.
