Still time to enter Young Lions competition
Entrants will be given 48 hours to deliver an advert filmed on a mobile device, preparing them for a similar challenge in Cannes in a competition against the best in the world.
As the local representative, Cinemark is giving young South African creatives under the age of 28 a chance to represent South Africa as they travel to Cannes to compete internationally.
"For me, the highlight was networking with creatives from other countries. There was respect for South African work from many of the people we talked to and it was interesting to see people respect you already as a creative purely because you're from South Africa," says Willie Struwig, winner of last year's Cinemark Young Lions Competition. His creative partner, Roberto Adamo, adds that the international competition was everything that he had imagined and put the drive back into his creative step.
Prizes
Winners will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and the winning team will be presented with a Gold medal during the Film, Film Craft, Branded Entertainment, Titanium & Integrated Lions Awards Ceremony on 22 June. They will also be included on the Shots post Cannes show reel and the Shots e-newsletter after Cannes and they will be able to view shots.net for one month after the Cannes Festival. Members of the winning Gold team will receive a full delegate registration to Cannes Lions 2014 including hotel accommodation, as well as a limited-edition photographic print donated by Getty Images.
All work produced in the competition is made available for the charity to incorporate into their marketing campaign following Cannes. Tools at the festival include software - Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple iMovie. Each workstation consists of an Apple iMac. The Young Lions will also have access to a music library courtesy of Getty Images.
Struwig advises, "Simple ideas trump all. It was the simple ideas that were executed well that really won all the big awards."
