5FM and SL make music in Grahamstown for media bursary

The 5FM/Standard Bank and SL Magazine Party at Rhodes University on Friday, 18 February 2005, will see all event proceeds being donated to a Rhodes Journalism and Media Studies Department Bursary, which will give one lucky person the opportunity to embark on a media course at Rhodes University.

The festivities will kick off with a live 5FM broadcast of 'The Nicole Fox Show' (6pm to10pm), on the university grounds. Thereafter, 5FM's Roger Goode, Koula, Sureshnie Govender and Nicole Fox will get the beats pumping for the actual party at the Upper Barrat Grounds.

"This project is a practical way for us to reward talented individuals who deserve the right to take advantage of exciting career opportunities in the media business. It also ensures that as an industry we do not loose this talent, but rather nurture it and ensure that the quality journalism present in South Africa is extended," says John Langford, 5FM station manager.

Tickets (R30) for the event are available from the Rhodes University Journalism Department from 14 February. Those who can't attend, can SMS 37380 to make a contribution, at a call charge of R7.50 incl. VAT.

"Grahamstown produces some of the country's top journalists and media personalities, and has a huge SL readership. We want to support that and give something back to the Journalism Department for all the skills they've equipped us with. And, it's about time Grahamstown had a good hoe down!" says Natalie Dixon, SL editor.
