Do Do Do shot in Durban

Durban-based indie pop-rock band Fire through the Window recently released the video to the track Do Do Do, taken off their latest album, "Hey". It's a fun, youthful video shot with still cameras at a high frame rate, producing an animated effect that links well with the track conceptually.

The video was shot at probably one of the most visited landmarks in Durban: the old fun fair on North Beach. This entertainment park is a nostalgic setting for those familiar with the sunny city, including myself. The rides, as far as I can remember, are still the same and not much has changed in the seven years since I left for Cape Town.

The concept behind the video centres on a couple (lead singers) who, while ambling around the fun fair always seem to miss each other. They are never seen in the same shot together in the entire video. The track's light-hearted and catchy, and links well with the video.

"The song's about love lost, so we wanted a simple concept to portray that. Thomas (Ferreira), from 187 pictures, sent us this one and we ran with it. Was an awesome day - even though it rained - and we got to feel like kids again running around the old funfair we all grew up going to. Very nostalgic! But I don't think they've update the rides since we were kids, pretty dodgy! Hence we only went on one :)" says the band.

Fire Through the Window (FTTW) was originally formed in late 2006 by Marc De La Querra and Sinéad Dennis; and in 2007 Fire Through The Window formed as a complete band. They are: Sinead Dennis on vocals and percussion, Marc de la Querra on vocals and guitar, Peter Babol on guitar, Sheldon Yoko on drums, and Keagan van Rooyen on bass.

Their sound is light, young, playful and a pleasure to listen to. While only releasing their second album, they've played at big events countrywide, including: Splashy Fen, OppiKoppi Wildcard fest, Witchfest, and Rocking the Daisies.

The director of the video is 187's Thomas Ferreira who wrote, produced and shot the video. Duvan Durand was the editor with help from band member, Sinead. 187 is represented by Groundglass, a production company based in Cape Town.

"We basically really liked the location and thought that we could do something really visual there. Then decided, from an artistic and budget point of view, that doing it on stills would be perfect and then decided to have the two band members walk through the park and cross each others paths, but always moments earlier or moments too late, but keeping them in the same time frame as if they are so similar that they would do the same thing as the other one - or that they are as one and can't be separated, but only showing one of them at a time," said director Ferreira.

"We shot for one day; the band was easy to work with and the location just leans itself towards looking amazing. The shoot got rained out but we had enough footage to finish the video and still make sense.

"The video was a fun small project; it was the first time I have used this medium for a video. It was cool to be able to use both film and stills to create the desired effect," said Ferreira.

"A very special thanks goes to Annie Klopper, who went on the trip/job with the director and documented the process, interviewed the band and helped getting lost in Durban."
