Solid Brass Quintet to close Chamber Music concert series

If you have not had the chance to attend one of the popular concerts in the Chamber Music Breakfast series at Kirstenbosch you still have time to enjoy the last concert in this third series. Ending the series on a high note on 30 August 2009 is the Solid Brass Quintet.

This lively series is annually presented by the Kirstenbosch Tea Room and sponsored by Pick ‘n Pay and takes us through the winter season with the wonderful scenery of the garden, a magnificent breakfast prepared by food maestro Pamela Shippel and the varied recitals. From Mozart to Moonlight Serenade, patrons have enjoyed the best of Cape Town's musicians at these wonderfully supported performances.

The Solid Brass Quintet brings several well-known musicians together to present a varied menu for this last concert. With Michael Blake and Brent Lacey on trumpet, Peter Amon on French horn, William Haubrich on trombone and Nicholas Green on bass trombone the Thatch Hall will resonate with the joyful sounds of this ensemble.

Patrons will enjoy the richness of this brass quintet in a cleverly designed programme to suit a variety of tastes. From classical to Big Band Swing and including such favourites as Bizet's Suite from Carmen, Debussy's Girl with the Flaxen Hair, Pops Suite by Frackenpohl, Ain't Misbehavin' by Fats Waller and more this last concert promises to be a lively morning.

The five members of Solid Brass began in Cape Town as principal members of the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, and continue to grace the Cape in classical and jazz settings. Solid Brass is South Africa's most sought-after chamber ensemble. With a wide repertoire spanning classical, jazz, pop and African music, this unique instrumental group has since 1986 delighted audiences at prestigious events and private functions throughout Southern Africa as well as parts of Europe and the East. The ensemble is renowned for its tireless efforts in education and in outreach projects, such as the Brass Congress in which the country's young brass players learn from the masters.

Your morning starts with a glass of bubbly followed by a sumptuous breakfast which is served from 9:30am to 10:45am and the concert is from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

Details: Ticket price is R150 per concert (by collecting your ticket directly from the Kirstenbosch Ticket office you can save R10) which includes entry into the garden, breakfast and entry to Kirstenbosch.
