Cape Town’s water use remains too high despite Day Zero lessons

The SOS Children's Village consists of 15 family houses and two youth houses, with over 120 children finding shelter here. As such, there is never a shortage of repairs or paintwork needed, and this requirement came to the attention of the Peninsula Hotel's staff. These caring staff members are more than willing to take time off from their normal work duties to provide much-needed services, from repairing cupboards, replacing doorknobs, fixing holes in ceilings, replacing broken tiles and even washing the windows.
"We are so grateful to The Peninsula team for their continuing support in helping us upgrade the SOS Children's Village. They have really brightened up the area and made such a difference in the lives of all those who visit the Village," said Heidi Hesketh, fundraiser for the SOS Village.
At The Peninsula Hotel, every Friday is Casual Day, and each staff member donates R5 towards the SOS Children's Village Fund for the privilege of being allowed to wear casual clothes to work. In December, with the donations collected throughout the year, The Peninsula Hotel will buy gifts and hold a fun-filled party for the 45 children who have to remain at the Village over the school holiday period.
