Shoprite Group assists Grey Town on World Water Day
As part of National Water Week, 17 to 23 March, the group is also encouraging its customers to assist with drought relief efforts through its #ActForChange Disaster Relief Fund. Since the beginning of March, consumers across South Africa have been able to make donations at any Shoprite or Checkers supermarket by adding increments of R5 to their purchases.
Other disaster management initiatives
The #ActForChange Disaster Relief Fund will initially be used to bring relief to those communities affected by water shortages. From time to time, however, the fund will also assist other disaster management initiatives on a national and community level, by providing relief to the people of South Africa in partnership with organisations like the SA Red Cross Society, Gift of the Givers, Working on Fire, and FoodBank SA.
The Shoprite Group has, in recent weeks, donated and/or transported more than 400,000 litres of water to various towns in the Free State, North West and KwaZulu-Natal. The group has a long history of reaching out to communities when affected by disaster and will continue its drought relief efforts for as long as needed.
