Marketing & Media South Africa

Second time lucky for TopTV?

TopTV has struggled to make headway against MultiChoice's DStv service, even looking to porn as a means to gain market share. Now however, the channel is to relaunch as StarSat with what looks like an ambitious target - to grow its existing base of 100,000 homes by 700,000 a year.

It's been in existence for a little while now, and has barely penetrated the market... one wonders what TopTV... sorry... StarSat has up its sleeve.

Aegis Media, in conjunction with Bizcommunity.com, will be hosting the eleventh Thought Leadership Digibate that will focus on why marketers need to Future Proof Africa.

How many of us in the industry actually know what sustainability or future proofing is? Yes, we have all heard and experienced the scare tactics out there, but do we really know what to do and how to do it? Surely communications is key to this?

Here's a strange one... as much as everyone with a brain looks back on many apartheid-era laws with less than friendly views, our protectors - when they're not scrapping between themselves, that is - seem to be quite ready to threaten Independent Newspapers with an apartheid-era law.

Shame, the investigative journalists in countries such as Finland, Sweden, Norway, Australia, and New Zealand must have a bit of a battle filling those column inches. Not so here in SA, where Ed Herbst reckons we're in a golden age of investigative reporting, with everything from an arms deal costing billions, to a certain premier doing her best to keep her local fast-food sector alive - and doing a damned good job of it too - and all points in between.

Rod Baker, Content Director (@Bizcommunity, @Biz_Marketing)
