New TVC shows animated toys from kalahari.com

kalahari.com has animated its toy offering in a new TV commercial featuring one-eyed Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc lounging in business class, while Superman hitches a ride on the wing of his plane. Doc McStuffins can be seen riding in a red toy wagon, while adventurous Woody from Toy Story opts to ride on the back of a kalahari.com delivery scooter. (video)

"Come the day before Christmas, people all over the world mutter how they should have started their shopping earlier. That said, online shopping and offering a little incentive will hopefully eliminate the fuss and get shoppers starting a little early," says Kirby Gordon, marketing manager at kalahari.com.

"Working with the toys was like reliving one's childhood," said Ian Chuter of Platypus Productions. "A new toy emerged each time we set up various scenes, yet bringing the toys to life was a little tricky. Some of the toys were animated in their own right, so we could get them to move by themselves. The problem was that some were not always as easy to control as you might think they would be because they are programmed to only take a few steps at a time. As we got into the scene, they'd run out of actions or come to the end of their sequence."

The site's advertising agency, JWT Cape Town along with Platypus Productions, shot the TV advertisement in two days in various locations around Cape Town. The team shot in quite a tight scene, with the act of zooming in with the camera into the world of toys being every kid's dream. A world where a little Lego man suddenly becomes a life-sized man fighting the high seas in his pirate ship and Barbie fairy becomes a forest friend, even though she's only 30cm tall in reality!
