Marketing & Media South Africa

A new power on the airwaves?

Come 18 June and we'll see the launch of Power FM, the new radio station that has deep pockets and has used them to buy some of the best talent out there.

Fair? Unfair? Virgin Mobile's CEO has a few harsh things to say about MTN and Vodacom, which he claims have used anti-competitive behaviour to hammer his company.

There are only two types of people in this world who never make mistakes - those who do nothing and - they say it, we don't - politicians. Catherine Milward-Bridges takes a look at leadership and has some pointers for you - such as... you need to listen.

Given that, thanks in large part to government interference, the SABC has become somewhat of a circus - many people believing the latter to have fewer clowns - what we need is less government interference, not more... So it's not very reassuring when we read that communications minister (she with the red shoes) wants more control over the SABC.

On the newspaper front, Anton Harber has some lessons in newspaper ownership for Iqbal Survé, the incoming owner of Independent News & Media SA.

And finally...

Hey Bro...Do you want to go like a pro... you know... win an awesome GoPro camera and accessories worth over R6,000. It's so simple... just create or update your MyBiz Profile on Bizcommunity and stand a chance to WIN.

The future isn't digital - it's people
[Travis Bussiahn] There's an interesting thing I'm watching in the content strategy & marketing space: A separation of paths, a divergence in the wood. I might be tired and on the wrong side of too many coffees as this epiphany comes, so grab a pinch of salt and humour me. Read more >>

Why brands must act like publishers
[Athar Naser] Most companies don't like change. The uncertainty unnerves shareholders, the instability threatens structures, and the unknown doesn't fill next year's balance sheets. Why Kindle is not the answer
[Wesley Lynch] Even though the story of e-books, for the most part, is the story of Amazon's Kindle - which overcame the increasingly high cost of print book production and distribution by digitising the value chain - it is not, for various reasons, the answer in an academic context.
