Supercare bought by Compass Group
Described as a cultural fit, the Compass Group (CGSA) has acquired Supercare Services, one of South Africa's leading cleaning companies that generated revenue of R710.5 million in the 2011 financial year and had gross assets of R155.3 million.
The acquisition brings together the best practices and high-quality people from both companies, as well as their shared commitment to continue investing and growing in South Africa. As a combined group, they are able to offer high-quality food and support services, including contract cleaning and washroom hygiene, to more clients across South Africa, and deliver significant benefits to both companies.
Chairman of CGSA and Supercare, Monwabisi Kalawe, said, "The group is delighted to have acquired such a highly respected company. It has a reputation for the quality of its services and strong customer relationships with both South African and international clients. Together, the companies employ more than 27 000 people, making us one of the largest employers in the country and we intend to use their combined strengths to offer great things to the service industry in the future."
Philip Kruger, CEO of Supercare, added, "This is an exciting development for both companies and we are looking forward to working and growing as part of Compass. Its business culture and strong values are similar to ours and its international presence will bring many benefits, including giving our employees and clients access to wider international best practice."
"This is the group's second major investment into South Africa and will potentially contribute significantly to economic growth and greater opportunities as a multi-service business," says Vusi Khanyile, outgoing Chairman of the Board of Directors of CGSA and CEO of Thebe Investment Corporation. "South Africa needs to maintain its competitive edge as a favourable destination for trade and investment such as this."
