OFM trials word of mouth

The recent rollout of WOMF (Word of Mouth Forum) by central South African radio station OFM is being watched from around the world, according to Lyndon Johnstone, OFM MD. WOMF is an online facility that allows consumers and businesses to ask colleagues, family, friends and colleagues – and now an even wider group of people, their whole community - for references to a restaurant, car dealer or favourite bookstore etc.

“Radio stations in Europe, Australia, the UK and India are waiting to adopt the concept. But OFM is the first radio station in the world to go live with WOMF. The Australian owners of the concept chose OFM as the trial run because of our willingness to be innovative and ability to make foreign concepts work,” says Johnstone.

“I believe WOMF creates a unique platform for consumers and business in central South Africa to interact.”

Comments Vincent Maher, strategist at the Mail & Guardian Online, “Radio has always been closer to the culture of participation than newspapers and TV and it is great to see the power of local communities rising to the fore.

“Not only is the site beautifully designed, in classic Web 2.0 shades of blue, it is also very functional and has a great map of locations where discussions are taking place. Well done OFM!”
