KFC supports Crazy Entertainers

KFC has signed a sponsorship deal with the Crazy Entertainers, a group of performers from the township who perform on the streets, record skits, shoot movies with basic equipment, cut multiple DVD copies and sell them on the streets. They have played a key role in the increasing popularity of locally made, low-budget comedy DVDs that were inspired by the success of similar DVDs from Nigeria.

Securing this sponsorship could be life changing for them, as they will have their DVDs distributed through the company's network. They will be going on a road show, to Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to launch their movies in different cinemas.

Lisa Burman, marketing manager of KFC, said once their company heard of the Crazy Entertainers it just made sense to get them onboard, because of the synergy between the two brands. “Our company has always been passionate about making great food and we quickly recognized their passion for performing. Both brands are unique and can't be copied,” said Burman.

The company has created a 360-degree campaign designed to be everywhere - radio, TV, outdoor and various activations - and which will roll out during the course of 2010. In line with their affinity with the Streetwise Brand, this campaign focuses on the journey and smart choices that the group has had to make in order to get one of its movies made.

Thato Maphanga, one of its members, expressed his appreciation at the partnership with the sponsor. “Performing our comedy routines and making movies is our true goal in life. This sponsorship will give us the power to reach and entertain even more people. It's great that a big brand like this is getting involved with us to push our passion to the next level. Everybody will know about us after this,” said Thato.
