The Full Monty @ the Artscape
The production features the top-class experience of SA's best, including Steven Hicks, playing the brash Jerry Lukowski, Mike Huff playing Harold Nichols, Judy Page, the dramatic diva Jeanette Burmeister, Ilse Klink playing Vicki Nichols as well as Tessa Denton, playing Georgie Bukatinsky. The cast puts together a next to flawless performance and a musical just ain't a musical without the exceptional sounds from the orchestra and the musically-talented actors. Commiserate with the men in their performance of “Scrap,” and feel their confidence grow as they find their feet in “Michael Jordan's Ball,” be razzle dazzled with “Jeanette's Showbiz Number” and be touched by the heart-capturing performance of “You walk with me” by Malcolm and Ethan.
The Full Monty is a captivating tale of a bunch of unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, New York who find a way of making some quick cash while impressing the ladies. As the guys work through their fears, self-consciousness, feelings of worthlessness and anxieties they find strength in each other, overcoming their individual fears. Becoming a stripper has never done more for your self-esteem.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance as they were entertained throughout the show by the antics of each colourful character. All said and done, a fantastic performance by the cast as well as by the backstage crew for putting together a perfect package that is sure to keep all eyes glued to the stage - especially the women on that last scene. Keep those binoculars on the ready and steady as you're yelling to bring on “the Full Monty.”
