MOST Awards: All the winners
More than 750 guests attended last night's MOST Awards, where media agency and media owner sales staff were recognised for their outstanding service.
What underpins the MOST Awards is keeping the research methodology relevant and consistent, as well as making the results available to the industry. These key success factors have ensured the MOST Awards are viewed as credible.
Sandra Gordon, founder of the MOST Awards and CEO of Wag the Dog Publishers, explained why these awards are so important, "Simply put, we seek to enhance the relationship between media agency personnel and the sales and marketing teams within media owners. Ultimately better service, communication, and delivery levels rub off on clients who apportion a large chunk of their marketing budgets to advertising in our media. An independent and flourishing media is vital in our country. In addition, many successful agencies and owners have bought the research and applied our criteria to their employee KPAs. It is rewarding to see the level of participation and enthusiasm for the MOST Awards."
Ensuring samples are representative of the industry
Keeping a close eye on the research methodology and process is Brad Aigner, MD of independent research company Freshly Ground Insights (FGI), "Ensuring high levels of participation in the survey is fundamental to ensuring that the sample is representative of the media industry. At the start we fine-tuned the criteria to represent what media agencies and owners believe is most important to them in respect of service and delivery levels."
The MOST Awards, now in its fifth year, has grown significantly, garnering a record 6,342 votes this year. This is a phenomenal achievement given the size of our local industry.
The ceremony saw 16 awards presented, with Media Agency Rising Star going to The MediaShop, Group Managing Director, Chris Botha. He is described by voters as open, fair, and approachable; an inspiration and a leader who is well respected.
This year's MOST Media Agency Legend Michelle Meyjes, CEO of the MEC Group, is described as a proven leader with a fantastic work ethic; knowledgeable of media with total commitment to staff, clients and media owners.
Jacques du Preez, MD of Provantage, was presented with the MOST Media Owner Rising Star award for the fourth year in a row, voters acknowledged Du Preez as an innovative risk taker, involved in all aspects of his sector and constantly evolving his business.
Joining the list of Media Owner Legend icons was Gill Randall, Joint MD of NAB/Caxton. Randall is rated as someone who is down to earth, smart, a pleasure to deal with and an optimistic peoples' person.
The Media Owner Overall Lamb Award who achieved between 25 and 29 votes went to Tractor Outdoor and the Media Agency Overall Lamb Award was awarded to PHD Cape Town.
MOST also a host
The MOST Awards also host the Advertising Media Association of South Africa's (AMASA) Roger Garlick Media awards for innovation in media strategy and planning. The Ignition Award, for students currently studying media, was awarded to Michelle Venter-Davies, Vega School of Brand Leadership. The 2013 Roger Garlick Grand Prix was presented to Taryn Naledi Hood from Mindshare for the YUM KFC Journey of Hope campaign.
The entire awards ceremony was streamed live. The edited and full versions of the awards can be found on www.wildcam.tv or www.themediaonline.co.za.
