New segmented lifestyle magazine launches

Lebone Purge Media is launching IZZiT, a new bi-monthly lifestyle magazine that addresses the needs of people of mixed heritage (coloured or ‘brown'), in October 2008. Billed as an historical first for South Africa, the magazine is expected to also have secondary readerships in the broader context of the SA landscape and the diaspora.

Under the editorship of Fatima Abdool and Erald Felix, the focus of the new title will be lively, practical and contemporary, with the aim of enhancing readers' information, knowledge and skills base about themselves and the coloured community in general, alleged to have been fragmented and isolated for many decades.

The name IZZiT is derived from the phrases ‘Is it?' and ‘Is dit?” and reflects the bilingual profile of the community. It also implies that questions, queries and expectations readers might have, will be answered in the magazine. The magazine will thus have content in both English and Afrikaans.

IZZiT will offer fresh, different perspectives, provide a forum for interaction and an exchange of ideas and practices, present new developments and trends, encourage personal growth and participation, and promote interest in this complex community and its challenges.

It will carry regular features, columns, one-off articles and special, themed sections. These include profiles, case studies, genealogy, investigations, advice on household queries, food, health, finances and careers, as well as the latest news in entertainment, fashion, technology and sustainable living. A strong emphasis will be placed on literature, especially Afrikaans prose and poetry by young people, for young people.

IZZiT will be available at R19.95 from bookstores and other stockists serving the community, as well as on subscription at R100 for six issues. Further details and subscription forms are available on www.izzitmagazine.com. The magazine can also be accessed on the website.
