Top tourist publication, Time Out, chooses the Mother City

Time Out, the world's most recognisable travel guide, trusted and loved by international travelers for its independent editorial commentary, will have Cape Town joining the ranks of other top tourist cities such as London, Paris and Athens with its own sassy annual guide.

Time Out Cape Town Visitors' Guide will be produced by the award-winning New Media - publishers of amongst others, Visi, Insig and Eat Out magazines.

Bridget McCarney, managing director of New Media says the Time Out Cape Town Visitor's Guide will be the leading source of entertainment information in and around the city.

"The explosive growth of tourism in the Western Cape creates an ideal opportunity to publish a one-stop source guide to visiting Cape Town. In addition, Time Out is a highly regarded international publishing brand that has been recognised for its significant and reliable information over the past 34 years. Our local experience in producing top entertainment titles such as "Shop" and "Eat Out" as well as our commitment to excellence in publishing has now been internationally recognised by the relationship with Time Out UK."

Published in magazine format, the guide will cover sightseeing, accommodation, theatre, clubs and shopping - making this an indispensable guide for both local and international visitors.

Sam Woulidge, editor of the new guide, says it is great fun and a real privilege to work on the local version of one of the biggest international magazine brands. "Time Out Cape Town will, as with the other international city guides, be written in an edgy and honest style. This will be a comprehensive guide to one of the busiest tourist cities in the country, with special sections on the Winelands, the Overberg and Route 62."

"As with all Time Out guides, the look and feel of the publication will tie in with that of the other Time Out brands through style sheets from the United Kingdom - but the soul of Cape Town will shine through. The content will have a real Cape flavour, with our team of contributors setting out to capture the essence of Cape Town in a funky, entertaining way."

Sheryl Ozinsky, manager of Cape Town Tourism added, "This is great news and long overdue! At last Cape Town - recently voted number five in the BBC's '50 places to see before you die' - will soon boast its own local Time Out Guide, used and supported by all tourist authorities, hotels and the City of Cape Town. The strong brand of Time Out will help to promote Cape Town long before the visitor even gets here, and its content will show how worthwhile it is to visit the city."

The annual Time Out Cape Town Visitors' Guide will be sold for R29.95 and will be available from the last week of November at all traditional outlets as well as selected hotels, delis, wine shops and tourism offices.
