Teen title freshens up look

This November, seventeen magazine is celebrating its fourth birthday with the launch of its new masthead. The change was inspired by the need to bring a fresh new look to one of the top-selling teen titles in South Africa.

“After four years, we figured it was time to spice up the cover a little and so we've brought in the italicised masthead used by the US seventeen. It's feminine, flirty and brings a youthful energy to the cover,” says editor Justine Stafford of 8Ink Media.

seventeen has also had an in-book revamp, with popular sections such as “Little Black Book” (which features music, reviews, social photos and hot guys) being transformed into “Scene” and a slicker, more modern look and feel to allow for easier reader navigation. The Fashion and Beauty pages are dedicated to the readers - providing them with useful style information; while the back of the book provides global style and high-street trend inspiration.

seventeen is also using its birthday issue to launch its green campaign - this will commence with editorial exposure in every issue and an in-book initiative that will run throughout the year.

The November issue of seventeen hits shelves on Wednesday, 24 October 2007, and retails for R21.95.
