Loerie judging incorporated new rules this year

This year The Loerie Awards had two international judges and a number of changes to the judging and entry process this year to ensure impartiality. All entries were labelled anonymously - no agency names visible - and there was a ballot system for voting, instead of the traditional show of hands.

International judge, Prasoon Joshi, McCann-Erickson India's Regional Creative Director for South Asia & South East Asia, cancelled at the last minute. Steve Henry of HHCL/red cell, stepped in instead as alternate jury chair of the Advertising Category judging panel. The Jury Chairman for the Design category was Ken Cato, an Australian designer with an international reputation, and Chairman of Cato Purnell Partners. Cato's participation was made possible by the Design Indaba - a partner of The Loerie Awards in the newly formed Creative Alliance.

Across all categories, Loerie Awards 2005 judges were looking for one thing - creative excellence; work that is exceptional in execution, and relevant to its target audience, said The Loerie Awards committee.

"The task to seek out work that is bold and innovative and that challenges convention will be formidable, but I'm more than comfortable that the judging panels have the experience and the skills to identify it," said Chair, Wing Wing Mdlulwa at the time.

Winning campaigns will be showing at the local Margate cinema throughout The Loerie Awards weekend, 15 and 16 October 2005. The Loerie Awards will be having its first Travelling Exhibition, which will showcase the best work the industry has to offer by visiting major centres as well as schools and colleges throughout the country. This will promote the industry and inspire young, up-and-coming creatives to create their own award-winning work.
