    Ugandans to join telecom Youth Forum Essay competition

    Ugandan students from universities and other institutions of higher education have been called on to submit short essays based on current problems in their communities.

    The competition organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), seeks to discover unique solutions that the participants can come up with to enable it to help deploy ICTs, to solve problems in the participants' communities.

    The winning writer will win a fellowship to participate in the annual ITU Youth Forum scheduled for 5 - 9 October, 2009. According to a communiqué from the Uganda Communications Commission, candidates must be Ugandan, aged between 18 and 23 and must be under higher education-learning at the time of submission.

    “They must have completed two years of university due by 30 June, 2009,” said a communiqué to the press yesterday.

    The essay, according to the requirements must be between 250 and 500 words on the subject: “What is the biggest problem in your community and how would you use information communication technologies to solve it.”

    Essays will be received by the Uganda Communications Commission by 8 May, 2009.
