    Into the cloud with SilverlineLAB

SilverlineLAB, described as a rebranded, redesigned and refocused hosted services business, has been launched by Bytes Document Solutions, distributor of Xerox to 27 African countries.

Specialising in the rapid deployment of rich personalised communication, brand collateral management and cross-media marketing services, the cloud-based service has been developed to provide applications at a monthly or pay-per-usage cost. Its target market is the advertising, communications, commercial print and marketing communities of South Africa.

It leverages the experience built by Bytes Document Solutions over more than four decades in the printing environment and its knowledge of what customers require to differentiate in a competitive and highly commoditised market.

"We use our hosted solution to provide full features of cross-media marketing applications to our customers at a reasonable cost. Our solution alleviates the need for our customers to invest huge amounts of money to buy software and incur other labour expenses," says Edward Bothma, divisional manager of SilverlineLAB.

"Our customers range from small sole proprietors and large corporates, mostly without dedicated budget to do personalised, one-to-one cross-media marketing. For these customers, our solution provides an attractive proposition."

    Silverline Store

The company is set to go live with the Silverline Store, an offering for the print-for-pay market that seeks to print short-run, novelty personalised products such as calendars, greeting cards and other highly personalised documents. It offers them templates from which they can make a number of selections to individualise the product, upload their own database of data and logos into the design; in return they receive a PDF document which they can print.

"Printers are often so consumed by the business of printing that they are unable to make time for product innovation. The company will allow them become to proactive vendors of high-value applications," says Bothma.

"This new offering allows them to gain immediate benefit from their digital printing capabilities and raise their product profile with richer applications. We have taken a step toward creating a market for richer, more personalised communication pieces and high-value print applications," he concludes.
