Global EdTech trends for online learning during and post Covid-19
Smartick co-founder Javier Arroyo shares three predictions for the future of EdTech in a post-coronavirus world:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the future of online learning. The best programmes are those that refine sophisticated AI algorithms at least every five weeks and adaptive learning systems can address the issue of disengaged children due to traditional learning models. This helps create a bespoke path of learning which grows alongside a child, replacing costly tutors and in-person after school learning centres.
- Success in school and the real world will come from learning broadly applicable concepts versus rote memorization. Instead of focusing on a set curriculum, programmes should teach globally applicable math and coding concepts that will prepare children to become flexible thinkers who thrive in any environment.
- Online learning can support a child’s growing independence. Online learning programmes are designed for children to work independently for 15 minutes a day, including engaging with complex math problems without the help of an adult. The more children practice on their own, the more confidence and education independence they gain. This allows children to take ownership of their learning.
The use of AI in edutech programmes allows for the seamless instruction to learners across the globe in Mathematics and Coding, with minimal parental involvement. This is a must for the ever-evolving work-from-home environment that we are currently adapting to. In just 15 minutes per day, children can be exposed to hundreds of educational tutorials and mentally stimulating "brain games" online, accessed from the comfort of their homes, with programmes like Smartick finding that 94% of children show an improvement in their calculation, logic and problem-solving skills.
