Tribal land to be used for development

Giyani - Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi has witnessed the signing of an agreement that will see the Giyani local municipality in Limpopo using tribal land for development.

Following years of negotiation, the Mavunda Traditional Authority, under the leadership of Hosi Pheni Ngove, signed a public-private partnership agreement with the municipality over the weekend. The agreement allows the municipality to use the tribal land situated close to the local central business district.

The agreement will create about a thousand jobs in the region and will ease the backlog in residential sites for Giyani - an issue that has been hampering growth of the municipality.

Giyani local municipality mayor Pat Hlungwani thanked the tribal authority for agreeing to release the land and said that the lives of Giyani residents will improve.
