APS' panel discussion to focus on printmaking

After their successful Coming of Age exhibition, the Artist Proof Studio (APS) will be hosting a panel discussion at the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) on 26 May 2012. At least 2 500 people attended the opening of the exhibition on 6 May, which showcased the talents of artists from APS, alongside other renowned artists who have supported the studio over the last 21 years.

This is in aid of APS' 21st birthday celebration which kicked off on 23 April. From collaborative student workshops to thought-provoking exhibitions, this celebration is witnessing reputable international visiting artists, exchanging ideas and artworks with some of South Africa's most celebrated artistic talents. This will ultimately see the celebratory process culminate in an evocative retrospective exhibition at the Tufts University Art Gallery in the States, in June this year, titled The Boston-Joburg Connection: Collaboration and Exchange at Artist Proof Studio, 1983-2012.

At the panel discussion a number of well-respected artists and art fundi will present talks around the subject matter of printmaking. During this discussion professor Andries Oliphant will facilitate while panellists Bronwyn Law-Viljoen, Bongi Dhlomo, Kim Berman, Tiffany Mentoor, Phillemon Hlungwani and Nontobeko Ntombela, will all discuss varied aspects of printmaking, such as printmaking in the South African context, printmaking as a successful career and printmaking at APS. The public attending these talks will also get the opportunity to buy prints.
