Algoa Cares raised R100,000 for EC charities

A total of R100,000 was raised for charities in East London and Port Elizabeth by the 2016 "forever young" themed Algoa Cares Charity Golf Days.

The kids from Nkosinathi Foundation of and for the Blind and Partially Sighted in Port Elizabeth celebrate their donation of R50,000, proceeds from the Algoa Cares Charity Golf Days hosted by Algoa FM in April and September 2016. They are one of the two beneficiaries of a R50,000 donation each.

The beneficiaries for the golf days were the Nkosinathi Foundation of and for Blind and Partially Sighted People, based in Port Elizabeth, and the East London Child and Youth Care Centre (ELCYCC).

Funds raised by the golf days will be used to equip Nkosinathi's early childhood development centre with specialised educational toys and tactile story books for blind children, musical instruments, tables and chairs, and first talking computers, says Nkosinathi Foundation director Debby Wakeford.
ELCYCC will use the money to help fund the extension of its Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre.

“Extending our ECD Centre will enable us to accommodate up to 20 children who are either in our care or from the community. Currently we can accommodate 12 children at the centre,” says Larne Robus, Social Worker and Fundraiser at ELCYCC.

“We would not have been able to make a difference in the lives of so many youngsters from the Eastern Cape if it wasn’t for the generosity of the golfers and sponsors who participated in our events,” says Toinette Koumpan, marketing manager at Algoa FM.
