Ford recalls new Rangers in SA over potential airbag safety risk

The recall affects vehicles from the 2026-2027 production year that were sold through Ford franchised dealers nationwide between 22 May and 23 June 2026.

Potential airbag deployment risk

According to the NCC, the side curtain airbags in affected vehicles may interact with the B-Pillar trim when they inflate, potentially preventing the airbags from deploying as intended.

The B-Pillar ramp may also detach from the vehicle during airbag deployment and become a projectile, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

The affected vehicles were sold in South Africa and exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Owners urged to contact Ford

Owners of affected Rangers are advised to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership to arrange an inspection and any required repairs.

All remedial work will be carried out at no cost to consumers.

“The recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. Owners or users of these vehicles should contact the supplier without delay,” said Hardin Ratshisusu, acting commissioner of the NCC.

The commission said it will monitor the recall to ensure affected vehicles in South Africa are attended to.
