Innovative yet wearable concept wins Men's Health Style Challenge

Rob Grey of Rocketfuel was announced as the first winner of the Men's Health Style Challenge at DIS Studios in Cape Town on Friday night.

The Holmes Brothers and Ironfist came second and third respectively. Fourteen designers were briefed to design a T-shirt which portrayed the essence of Men's Health - original, assertive and inspirational tops that reflect a specific frame of mind, attitude and enthusiasm for spring 2005 - Grey did just that.

Says judge and Men's Health Fashion editor, Neil Doveton: "Grey's design encompassed what we were looking for. Rocketfuel was creative and innovative, yet it's still something I imagine our guy wearing. Grey also reflects the passion of South African designs today."

Grey wins a trip for two to Paris which includes five night's accommodation, a sightseeing cruise on the River Seine as well as an extravaganza show at the Moulin Rouge.

In a fashion first for Men's Health, the magazine backed the local design industry by showcasing the best South Africa has to offer in the ever-growing men's fashion sector. Tasking South Africa's top fashion designers with the modern day all-rounder - the T-shirt - the Men's Health Style Challenge set to present what was classic, functional and contemporary. The T-shirt is a symbolic staple in today's wardrobe, which is exactly why it was chosen as the canvas for the designers' artistic expression.

Designers from across the country who participated in the event included Rocketfuel; X&O; Holmes Brothers; Ironfist; Flava; Ephymol; Life by Andre Martin; Bitter Chocolate; Register 7; Strategi; Amanda Laird Cherry; Darkie and Craig Port. All designers' creations graced the catwalk at an inspiring visual spectacular for Spring 2005.

As men's lifestyles evolve, styling has become increasingly important. With the inclusion of fashion and grooming as its sixth editorial pillar, Men's Health grows with its readers. Health, fitness, sex, stress and nutrition form the core pillars of the magazine.

The Men's Health Style Challenge was proudly sponsored by Lee Cooper jeans and the all new Nissan Murano.
